About Me

My photo
I'm Jackie and I live in the North East of England with my husband John and our Border Collie Cassie. I'm originally from Canada but emigrated to the U.K. in 1992. I work full time in I.T. but spend a lot of my spare time making greetings cards which I really enjoy.

Thursday 25 August 2011

It's been a while!

Well folks it's been a while since I've managed to post here but there is a good reason I've been absent for so long.

Greetings and Gifts is now Greetings-and-Gifts Ltd. and on August 12th we opened a retail shop within walking distance of our house in Redcar.  Although we have been discussing the possibility since the beginning of the year, we never really believed we'd get to this point!

In the end we actually signed up for the property, got it refurbished, stocked and open in 10 days!  I still don't think we can quite believe we've managed to do it.

At the moment John is still teaching guitar and I'm still full time at the Council and we're working the shifts at the shop between us.  John doing days during the week then teaching late afternoon/evening and I'm working all week and doing the Saturday/Sunday shift in the shop.

Although we're both knackered, the shop has been received well and although it's quiet during the week at the moment, we had a good day on Saturday.

We're going to be open this Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday as well so are hoping for a good weekend trade wise.

We've expanded what we sell as well and have some great new wholesalers with brilliant merchandise.  I want it to be like a real Aladdin's cave so you notice something different every time you turn around.  We will get the new photo's up on the web-site eventually but obviously the shop is taking all of our time at the moment.

We've got a new range of Eco Friendly bags and backpacks as well and a range of Freedom Bags where some of the money goes back to the people in India and China who actually make them.  Nice stuff too!

We've got a great range in Hand dyed silk/velvet scarves made in Scotland which are absolutely gorgeous and a massive new range of gifts from trinket boxes/puzzle boxes to our expanding range of guitar products such as pens shaped like guitars and guitar key chains/pendants.  Well you can't be married to a guitarist without having some of these things ;-)

The winter hat/glove/scarf selection for men and women are already in as well and I must say I've done a cracking job of the shop window.  It looks great!

We can't thank our friends and family enough who have supported us and gotten us to this point.  We will remember you all when we make our first million!

Will update you all after the weekend and let you know how we get on.  Tomorrow is 2 weeks since we opened.  Long may it continue!

Here's the link to our spot on the local town web-site!  We're famous already :-)

Successful impromptu evening!

Well who'd have thought?

A good friend of mine asked if I'd like to do a stall at her local village hall for a ladies evening they were having. The evening consisted of a couple of fashion shows and numerous stalls selling a variety of products along with wine and food.

We got there about 6:00 last evening and set up quickly as the first ladies started arriving about 6:45pm!  At first I thought it may be quiet and that I wouldn't sell a lot but the people and the location were nice so that's half of the battle straight away.

Anyway, it turned out to be a lovely evening and an extremely profitable one in the end.  In 2 hours I sold more than I usually sell on an all day fair!  Everything was selling, especially the new products and I had numerous compliments on my range of stock.  I was really pleased they liked what they saw! I even had people saying, 'are you sure this price is right' LOL  Gotta love well priced wholesalers!

We were only asked for a £5 donation for the stall but at the end of the evening I had done so well I donated an extra £5 to the fund the evening was for.  The ladies seemed really pleased to receive the extra donation but I feel it's only fair on such a good night.  I hope to be invited to more like it!

I've also got a spot booked for a large Christmas fair locally and all in a good cause...a local baby's charity (Zoe's Place)  so will be looking to stock up with a new autumn/winter range of things soon.

Onwards and upwards...hopefully :-)  These were yesterday's top sellers!

New range of stock!

Well another new wholesaler and another completely new line of stock for Greetings and Gifts.  We now have funky handbag compact mirrors, a lovely range of mesh and enamel bracelets, heart shaped pendants on cords, leather plaited bracelets for both men and women and a great line of men's bracelets which are hematite and coco bead or rubber and stainless steel.  None of these products are selling for more than £6 so brilliant value as well.

There will shortly be a really nice line in children's jewellery also which will be perfect presents for birthday party goody bags and not too hard on mum's purse strings!

Here are my particular favourites.  I've already bagged myself a lilac one.  Well I have to advertise don't I?  :-)
Brilliant value at £5!

Hello all!

Well hello everyone,

My last craft fair went well and I actually sold out of the black and grey pendant scarves which is fantastic.  The pendant scarves went really well this time around and so did the cards so that's great news.

I've bought some of the Spanish scarves by the same manufacturer as the butterfly scarves as they have recently got new colours in.  Just be aware there is only one of each in this delivery so if you want one, you better decide soon. John will be putting them up on the web-site today and updating what is out of stock.  There's also a new batch of leather coin purses so you better get there quick as they sell out fast as well.

I'm contemplating another order of the double pendant scarves but am still trying to decide whether to go with the same as before or take a punt on slightly different ones.

Next craft fair is a different venue on Guisborough Town Fair Day and this will be mostly cards, bookmarks and coin purses as I wasn't selling the scarves when I booked the fair before Christmas. They already have 2 people selling something similar but I may just sneak the Spanish ones into my bag just in case I get there and can sell them. I know no one in the North has these particular ones!  Doesn't hurt to try LOL

Think that's about all for now!  The following is one of the new pendant scarves.  Gorgeous colour!

Haven't posted in a while

Have been neglecting my blog as of late so thought I'd best come and say hello.  I'm currently off work from my day job through sickness so if I'm not around much, that's why.

I'm still looking into potential venues for new Craft Fairs and have found a lovely one but I will need to hire the venue and do all the organising.  It's quite exciting but until I'm back to full fitness, it will have to wait a bit.  It's fairly available on weekends so even if it means waiting a few months I'm sure it will work as a future venue especially on the lead up to Christmas!

Web-site still doesn't appear to be taking off as I'd hoped but again that will take some time.  At least I'm well stocked up for the upcoming Craft Fairs and am looking forward to them.

Think that's about all for now so bye bye for now everyone.  Hope to have some more updates soon.

Tuesday 3 May 2011

Well who'd have thought?

Well, today has been a good day for Greetings and Gifts!  I'd originally planned to have a 'home party' to show off the products from the web-site but a friend had managed to acquire one of the rooms in a local pub close to work so moved the sale to there! (Thanks Linda, you're a star)

Got to the pub about 4:30 with Linda and got everything set up ready.  A few of the girls from work came in as well as some of the regulars from the pub including the landlady and my good friend Rachel also popped in after work.

I don't think one person went away empty handed and it was a real success!  Still managed to be home about 7:30 so absolutely worth doing.  The landlord and landlady from the pub were happy as my customers were spending money at the bar so a win win situation for all of us really.  They are happy for me to do the same on a regular basis which is fantastic news!

Pat's lovely handpainted bookmarks were selling again, the bags, the butterfly scarves, the crystal heart scarves and the little leather coin purses all made their way to new homes as well as some of my cards and a couple of pairs of the music paper jewellery made by Rachel's friend Alix!

I'm really pleased that the whole range of products are selling.  It means I have the balance right of what I'm selling so I'm a very happy bunny today I must say.

Thanks to everyone who turned up and bought.  I'll need to restock some of the lines soon and watch out for the new range of Spanish pendant scarves and Leather/Suede handbags towards the end of the summer!  They are fantastic!!!!

Thanks again everyone!

Better day today at Sunnyfield House!

Back at my usual venue today for their monthly Craft Fair and although it started slow, it picked up as the day went on.

I disagree with closing up early at any fair as you never know who will come in during the last hour and that's what happened today resulting in a sale of one of the lovely butterfly scarves.

Cards were selling today as well which is nice since they're my baby and Pat's lovely bookmarks with the local scenes on them had a lot of interest and a couple of sales!

I also managed to sell one of  Tonya's (Hillbilly Handiworks) quilted picnic placemats which was nice since they only arrived yesterday.

All in all worth getting out of bed for!

Sunday 24 April 2011

Today was a steep learning curve!

Well folks,

Off I went this morning to a Craft Fair at a new venue optimistic and excited about my new products and a busy Easter Sunday Craft Fair with glorious weather.

The weather co-operated but I'm afraid nothing else did!  The stall holders were a rather 'tight knit' bunch with a couple of exceptions who were lovely to me as the 'newbie'. The rest were not particularly pleasant to say the least!

The potential customers were another breed altogether.  Craft Fair does not mean Jumble Sale.  Craft Fair means you are buying handmade and unique not dirt cheap tat!  To say these 'customers' had deep pockets was an understatement!  It wasn't even like some of us were making money and some weren't.  I would say you could count on one hand anyone who made a profit today.

It's such a lovely venue as well but badly advertised with no signs to say there is even a Craft Fair on in one of the many outbuildings on the site.  As for spacing out who sold what and limited the number of say card or jewellery stalls. That certainly didn't happen.  It appears that as long as you pay your table price, you can sell what you like.  This meant that we were overrun with jewellery and cards stalls and no one was making a profit.

Well you live and learn don't you?  I smiled and spoke to everyone who came through the door from 10:00 until we packed up at 2:00 and yes my face hurts from smiling and a lot of people ignored me but I will not let it change who I am and how I behave.

So as it stands I'm scuttling back to my lovely corner in Sunnyfield House on Saturday where I'm guaranteed a good crack with my fellow stallholders and friendly customers.

I'm now back at home with a well earned ice cold beer and looking forward to a takeaway curry for tea!

The stall by the way looked absolutely lovely.  Here it is!

Wednesday 20 April 2011

Busy day!

It's a good job that I'm off on leave from the day job at the minute.  I don't know how I'd have found the time to get ready for the Craft Fairs if I'd been at work as well.

The banner turned up today and my friend Rachel has brought me some jewellery to sell that a friend of hers makes.  It's necklaces and earrings made from recycled music paper varnished and strung as beads with coloured beads in between and it's lovely.  I've already nabbed one for myself.  Must get some photos taken!

I've managed to pack my new sports bag on wheels so that it's not bursting at the seams.  Thanks to Pat for the tip.  I managed to buy a decent one yesterday for a tenner!

So the range for Sunday is 3 types of pendant scarves, a variety of fabric bags, Pat's lovely hand painted bookmarks, my greetings cards, Liesl's beautiful stone and copper necklaces, Alix's music paper earrings and necklaces,  and the leather coin purses (what's left of them anyway as they're selling fast).  Not a bad selection at all.  Lets hope I come back with an empty bag!

The stall is going to look great so I'll make sure to take some photos before we open to the public :-)

The good news on the home front today is that Cassie's blood tests have come back from the vet and her liver is recovering and the other results are back to normal since the change in her epilepsy meds.  The vet couldn't be more pleased and neither could we.

Here's the little madame earlier tonight.  As you can see she's terribly stressed LOL

Monday 18 April 2011

Getting ready for Easter Sunday fair!

New bags arrived today along with business cards and everything looks great.  John's got the bags up on the web-site and just needs to do Liesl's jewellery now.  The photos have been taken and just need posting on the site.  Just the banner to arrive now and Pat's new bookmarks and we should be set for Sunday.

Just need to get everything there now and hope it doesn't rain!  With any luck it'll be a gorgeous day and be busy!

I've spent the last hour trying to get a definitive pricelist together which makes everyone a profit but is still a good price to the public so think I'm there now finally!

Saturday 16 April 2011

New stock still arriving!

Got Liesl's lovely jewellery in the post today so I'm looking forward to selling it along with the new bags which arrive on Monday.

I went through to one of the local pubs today as the landlady wanted a preview of the products.  I sold her one of the lovely leather purses, a bag and one of the butterfly scarves before she goes off to Vegas tomorrow on holiday!  Well worth the trip through to see her.

I then spent a lovely couple of hours in a local beer garden for some lunch and a few cheeky glasses of wine with the girls.  Still managed to make it home in profit too! LOL  All in all a productive Saturday afternoon.  Good job I did the shopping this morning!

So now all I'm waiting for is the shipment of bags and my new business cards and banner for the first fair on Easter Sunday!  Onwards and upwards!

The following photo is one of Liesl's beautiful pieces.  May just have to keep this one for myself!

Thursday 14 April 2011

New website is up!

Well everyone the metamorphosis continues. The new website is up and running although the new bags are still to go up.  The new company is called Greetings and Gifts and the new web address is http://www.greetings-and-gifts.com  A  second order of bags are on their way so 3 more new styles to come.  The site should be fully stocked by the beginning of the week providing the postman delivers the latest order tomorrow.
I'm really looking forward to the next fairs and the home party as well.  New products just seem to be dropping into my lap from, nowhere.  A good friend of mine has just got me a small amount of jewellery made from old music paper that she says is lovely and made by a friend of hers. Hopefully that will be part of the range at the home party and probably the fairs as well. I'm really excited to see it.  It sounds great.

The new business cards and banner for the stall have been shipped and they're fab and funky! Can't wait to see them in the flesh.

I've also registered to go to the Gift Fair in Harrogate in July with one of my good friends and my supplier of the bags and scarves has a booth there so goodness knows what we'll come back with!

Just had to share my excitement with you all!  New business card below!

Tuesday 12 April 2011

Glutton for punishment...

Well in for a penny, in for a pound.  When I started booking Craft Fairs at the beginning of this year, I chose 2 venues.  Sunnyfield House in Guisborough where I have my 3rd fair at the end of this month and Nature's World in Middlesbrough where I originally booked July, September and November.

Nature's World are having a Craft Fair on Sunday April 24th (Easter Sunday) and they've just confirmed my reservation for a stall on that date as well.

I have, however, just realised that means I have a Craft Fair on Sunday April 24th, one on Saturday April 30th and my home party on Tuesday May 3rd!

Oh yeah and in between I have a sneaky girls day out in Peterborough with my friend Vicki!

Good job I have 2 weeks off the day job starting this Friday! Let's hope it's all a success!

Sunday 10 April 2011

Crafti Cardz becomes Greetings and Gifts...

Well folks,

Crafti Cardz is in the process of re-branding to Greetings and Gifts.  The new web-site is under construction and John's doing a great job of putting it all together.

The new business cards have been ordered as well as a banner for the stall at the Craft Fairs so it's all go here.  I've also managed to get my hands on some cheap bags so at least I'll have some packaging for my customers to take their purchases away in.

The home party at the end of the month has received some interest so I hope all my friends enjoy the evening and buy loads :-)

Today has been spent doing the mundane chores around the house but I've managed to make a cherry cake and a corned beef pie in the process.

Only one week at work then two weeks off so it will be nice to get back to making cards again with no time restraints!  Tonight is for relaxing and putting my feet up I think!

Cassie has pride of place on my post today as she's just been bathed and clean puppy won't last long!

Saturday 9 April 2011

Lovely new products have arrived

I'm so excited about the new products that arrived this week.  The embroidered canvas handbags are lovely as are the gorgeous leather coin purses.  Really funky colours and good quality.  I've already claimed a coin purse and a bag for myself...for advertising purposes of course! :-)

Although the cards are my first love and are all my own work, the new additions are fabulous and are already selling well before the Craft Fair at the end of this month!  No reason that crafts and gifts can't sell together.

Unfortunately, the shop we were interested in has been let so we're still keeping our eyes open for other properties.  We have, however, decided to beef up the web-site so will be changing from Crafti Cardz and rebranding with the purchase of a new .com site!  John's currently working on it, so watch this space for the launch of the new company name and site.

I've also been speaking to a number of other crafty people who may be interested in allowing me to sell their products which include hair accessories, crocheted toys and jewellery made of old music paper!

I've decided to try a few home parties as well.  If it's good enough for tupperware, it's good enough for me.  I'm having one at home at the beginning of May and my mum wants me to have one at hers in June.  Have a few other friends that may also be interested.  A few bottles of wine and some nibbles and lovely gifts and cards to buy.  Sounds like a good plan to me!

I've been out today and bought some hangers to display the scarves at the Craft Fairs and think they will look really effective when it's all set up.  Onwards and upwards with the new stall!

I've just found out there will be a second stall selling hand made cards at the next few fairs but I'm not afraid of a little competition and know that my cards are of a good quality and totally unique.  I also know I can afford to drop my prices if necessary so bring it on!

The more products I source, the more excited I get about selling so maybe I've found my niche!  I even managed to sell scarves to a friend of mine who popped into the house for a visit today LOL

Think that's all for now so will keep everyone posted of any new developments!

Tuesday 5 April 2011

Back from Amsterdam

Just a quick one today as I'm still suffering the effects from my long weekend in Amsterdam.  My feet are still sore from all the walking round the shops and I'm absolutely ready for a good long sleep.  Probably won't catch up until the weekend but a great time was had by all!

I've got another couple of products being delivered this week too.  Same supplier as the lovely butterfly scarves except this time it's fabric/embroidered bags and leather coin purses.  All very nice indeed.  Should be here by the end of the week so that will be me well stocked up.

Must get back to the cards this weekend too.  I did a special request for one tonight and it reminded me that I really enjoy making them so must do some more.

I sold some more scarves at work today also so may just have a party at home to sell some of the great things I've got in stock.  Few drinks and nibbles and hopefully everyone will like all the items for sale.  May be a good way to introduce them to people.

Guess that's about it for now.  Will be back when the new exciting things arrive!

Wednesday 30 March 2011

Scarves are selling!

So now I have a box of cards at work and a selection of the 3 new lines of scarves!  Today 3 of the Butterfly scarves have sold and I've got orders for a handful of the elephant and heart ones.  Helps when I wore one to work today!

I've just found a selection of bags by the same wholesaler as the butterfly scarves and they're fab too so may well have to take some of the scarf profit and buy some bags!

The cards are still my first love and I'll always do them but I'm onto a winner with the scarves!

More cards sold in the office today, Mother's Day cards for the lads that have forgotten!

Off now for some well earned R&R  See you on Tuesday when I'm back from Amsterdam!

Here's a photo from the stall last weekend.  One of the other stallholders kindly sent it to me!

Tuesday 29 March 2011

New Scarves have arrived!

The scarves have arrived from the 2 new wholesalers and boy am I impressed. They are lovely colours.  The double scarves are either black/grey or grey/pink, the crystal ones are baby blue/baby pink/white/fuschia and the fabulous butterfly scarves are pistachio/fuschia/sand/silver grey/ivory/turquoise.

I'm sure they will all sell extremely well!  I already have to take one of each into work tomorrow so with any luck, I'll sell some and I'll have walking advertisements.

Looking forward to the next fair to test the market for them!

Not a lot else happening this week as I'm off to Amsterdam with the girls Friday and don't get back home until Monday morning. Absolutely exhausted and ready for a break.  Can't wait to hit the open air markets for a mooch about.

I took my leftover Mother's Day cards to work yesterday and sold quite a few to the people who had forgotten it was this weekend!  I love a captive audience of work colleagues!

Pics follow of the new scarves!

Saturday 26 March 2011

Absolutely worn out but Craft Fair was a success!

Hello all,

Well I survived today and it went well. It was definitely a scarf day followed by cards and then by bookmarks though!  I was disappointed that Pat's lovely bookmarks didn't do better but I'll take them to the next Fair and we're already plotting about new designs of local landmarks!  Thanks Pat!!

I am really pleased about the scarves though, so pleased that i've come home and found another local wholesaler who does some really different designs that I've never seen before.  Watch this space, they should arrive next week.  Fantastic colours too!

Mother's Day cards went well as expected and a few people went away with my business cards so that's great too.  The new stall looked fab so I no longer look like the poor relation LOL

I've also had a lot of interest from craft sellers if the shop does go ahead.  Pretty much good news all around today.

Off now for a well earned rest.

Thursday 24 March 2011

Last blog until after the Craft Fair on Saturday!

Well everyone, I'm as ready as I'll ever be for the Craft Fair on Saturday.  Everything's packed except for a last few minute bits and pieces including my flask of coffee and my picnic!  Have to keep the strength up!

I was speaking to the girl who runs the fair yesterday and she has 15 tables booked and a handful waiting for cancellations which is great news as it looks like the room will be filled to capacity! With any luck word of mouth will mean these are a successful monthly event!

My idea of having a box of cards at work for that 'oh no, I've forgotten someone's birthday' moment that we all have is working too.  My little payment jar is rattling nicely!

So, that's it for me until Sunday.  Here's hoping my next blog is to tell you all that Pat's lovely bookmarks, my cards and the fantastic scarves have all sold out and I'm back to creating for the next fair!

Tuesday 22 March 2011

Still preparing for the Craft Fair

Well I'm still getting the last things together for the Craft Fair.  Hubby has done some fluorescent signs that won't be missed and Pat's lovely bookmarks have turned up in the post today!  They're absolutely fab and I'm sure will sell well.

I've taken a sample of the scarves to work and all the girls like them so I'm pleased about that.  With any luck everything will sell well.

Rain is forecast for Saturday but as long as it doesn't start until people are in town and need somewhere to stay dry, we should be fine!

Still moving along with the plans for the shop but just gathering information at present.  Will need to speak to some of the sellers at the Craft Fair to see if they would be interested in having their goods in a shop if it was available!  Still haven't had that huge hurdle to stop us yet so we'll keep planning and hope one day soon it will happen.  I'm sure if it's meant to be it will be!

Taking the week off making new cards as I have plenty ready for the fair and a good selection on the web-site now http://www.crafti-cardz.jigsy.com/

i've also put an ad in Trading Places on our intranet at work so fingers crossed for all of the above!

Sunday 20 March 2011

Been a busy weekend!

Well it's been a busy weekend so haven't posted since Thursday!  Was out after work Friday and yesterday was busy getting the last things together for this coming Saturday's craft fair!

The stall is going to look good I must say.  Much better than last time.  Found some funky collapsible boxes and have some new plate stands to use for the cards.  We're going all pink and purple so think it will be effective.

Hubby is currently adding more cards to the web-site so there's a lovely selection of Mother's Day cards to choose from!

The scarves have arrived and I must say I'm really pleased with the selection.  Must remember not to buy them all myself or there will be no profit at all!

Just Pat's lovely bookmarks to arrive now and we're all set for Saturday.  I'm really looking forward to this one, especially with the new products.

More cards being produced today as I have a lovely new selection of toppers and ribbons.  Feeling creative so will take advantage of it.

Thursday 17 March 2011

Today it's Mother's Day Cards!

Hello all,

Managed to do a few new Mother's Day cards today after the day job and pleased with the results.  These ones are going up for sale on the web-site when the webmaster (hubby) gets them scanned!

I've got a box of cards in the office now too for those last minute 'oh no I forgot someone's birthday/anniversary/wedding' days!  Never one to miss an opportunity!

I guess I better get my finger out this weekend and sort the rest of the cards for next weekend's craft fair as well.  Not before a well earned meal out with the girls from work tomorrow though.

I had a lovely message from someone in the U.S. this morning asking if I'd ship cards over there and the answer of course is YES!  So pleased that people like my work, it makes it all worthwhile.

So the plan for the craft fair is everyone has to buy a scarf, Mother's Day card and hand painted bookmark.  There's your Mother's Day present for under £20.  Now only if it works that way!

Fingers crossed.  Well, time for relaxation now so that's it from me for today!

Wednesday 16 March 2011

A rather exciting day!

First of all, Cassie seems absolutely fine today after her fit yesterday and although the vet wants to alter her medication we are still hopeful about controlling the frequency and getting her liver function back under control as the meds are currently causing the liver to struggle.  She's currently upside down on the floor sound asleep with a tummy full of biscuits so is coping well!

Once again, no new cards today but I've managed to talk my lovely friend Pat Elliott into making me some hand painted laminated book marks to take to my next craft fair on March 26th.  I've just had a sneak preview and they are beautiful.  They will definitely make lovely Mother's Day presents along with a handmade Crafti Cardz Mother's Day card of course!

I've also managed to source some of those lovely trendy scarves with the jewellery in the middle.  A cross between a scarf and a necklace and they will be selling for a very good price.  Again wonderful gifts for Mother's Day.

We've also had a bit of a result with a potential shop and the costs are looking favourable.  I'd love to stock it full of all my friends handmade gifts so if any of you would be interested, let me know!  I'm just trying to see whether we can manage to do this!  I must say the idea is really beginning to take hold.

So I think today would be considered a good day for Crafti Cardz, even if the day job interrupted my creative processes!

Many thanks to my wonderful hubby who's been working on the web-site while looking after Cassie, doing his own day job and trying to get shop details!  He's a star!

Tuesday 15 March 2011

No card making today

Hello all,

Was back at my day job today so no new cards have been created.Sometimes it just isn't a creative day and today definitely isn't!  My mum did, however, deliver some lovely bits for new cards which she found on her travels so they will be put to good use when the creative juices are flowing again!

It's been a long day which included our darling Cassie (border collie) having a fit.  :-(  We've been dealing with her epilepsy for 3 years and it's not a nice thing to see.  Thankfully she knows nothing about it and wonders what all the fuss is about after. It's us who suffer and hubby was home by himself when it happened which made me feel completely useless from my office desk.

I was, however, greeted by a smiling waggy dog when I got home although a bit bleary eyed from her meds.  She has a tummy full of chicken and is having a well deserved sleep on the nice cool kitchen floor, bless her.

Think I deserve my feet up in front of the T.V. tonight which is where I am and intend to stay.

Monday 14 March 2011

Brain's been working overtime today...scary thought!

Well folks,

It's me again and my brain has been working overtime today.  I've been mulling over a fledgling idea for a business for sometime now and it seems to be getting a bit closer to becoming a reality.

I did my first craft show a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.  Enjoyed meeting the other crafters as well and saw some lovely handmade creations.  Between that and all of the lovely crafty people's things on the social networking sites, a little idea has been forming in my head.

There's a shop for let in the town I work in which is crying out for an arty/crafty/gifty kind of shop.  It's a market town which has coach tours stop there for comfort breaks on a regular basis which is a captive audience if I ever saw one.

I've been having a mull about it with my husband and some close friends and think this may just be an opportunity waiting to happen.

My idea is to sell my cards but also other people's handmade things as well.  May come to nothing but I can't see any reason not to give it a go at this point.

Watch this space, you never know, it may just happen!

Who I am

Well folks,

I'm Jackie and am the proprietor of Crafti Cardz.  I started creating handmade greetings cards on a whim really and have since realised I'm actually quite good at it.

I spent some time off work last year through illness and the more I recovered, the more bored I became with daytime TV.

My mum reminded me that I used to enjoy doing ceramics and maybe I should try and find a craft I could do at home to keep my brain active.

I went to a  local shop and bought a few bits and pieces to get me started and decided if it wasn't for me then I hadn't really spent a lot.

I found myself really enjoying what I was doing and started building up a stock of cards for all occasions.

I soon found my 'style' and have recently started visiting the local craft fares with my cards which I also enjoy immensely.

There is now a web-site and business cards and although I may never become a millionaire through my card making, I get great satisfaction from what I do.
